Welcome

Young Greg Lannan

I think it was e.e. Cummings who said, Man is at his best when he is at play. Hence, Playing In The Dirt is the title of my page. We play at many things: sports, made up games, hobbies, etc. Nonetheless, there is also a deeper meaning to play. Fun or play can also be an attitude we bring to all our endeavors such as work, relationships, love, art, etc. Throughout my life I tend to put an emphasis on play, like many people do, and the result is the work you will see here today. My work is quite often literally playing in dirt; the dirt being: clay, plasters, wax, paint, resin, wood, metal, etc. Yet, my sculptures represent the best of my work due to the playful process I follow.

Some of my pieces show this emphasis quite clearly. For example, Around We Go is an assemblage of sculpted figures and children's toys.
Around We Go
Golden Basket
Golden Basket is an assemblage that includes a toy gun. Other subjects of my sculpture, though not closely connected to play, include play as part of the process of creating.

So, please enjoy my sculptures, and simply have fun with them! View My Art Work.

Sincerely,
Greg Lannan
